A Cry for Help – Underprivileged Children in Ampara District Desperate for School Supplies

For parents in the Ampara district, many of whom are fishermen, farmers, labourers and female-headed households, their first priority is finding the means to feed their children amidst the current economic crisis. Educational requirements such as exercise books, pens, pencils, shoes and school bags are further down the list of priorities. Thus, when school commences in March 2023, thousands of children will be at a disadvantage since they do not possess the required school supplies. Raju, Chairman of the Socio-Environment, Educational Development Association (SEEDA) in Thambiluvil, Ampara, has received numerous letters from School Principals requesting basic school supplies to keep children in school. The aim is to provide 5000 students with a Learning Pack each valued at Rs. 2000.
